Suppression

China's State Administration for Radio, Film & Television banning time travel movies and tv shows is an example of suppression

Suppression
  • Controls an individual's rights
  • Questions the freedom given to a person
  • takes rights away from an individual
  • restraints one from doing what they desire

  1. Ok, this is as we talked about in class. Looking back at it, though, I think that you'll have to definitely contrast "suppression" with something else--what are the Chinese calling it? Then the debate will be over whether this kind of censorship should be considered as suppression or ______ (maybe promotion of the common good or education. This _____ should be something positive to contrast with the negative of suppression). What will be at stake then is whether China should be seen as a repressive state or one which looks out for the common good of its citizens--which mirrors debates we have here with censorship. You can make that connection.

To put it another way you might restate your formula as
Censorship is suppression (as opposed to looking out for the common good)
You are just using China as your specific example to work with.

Also, you'll need to work on those three reason. The three seem to just repeat the same thing.
